INDIANA CHEROKEE CENSUS
Starting in 2004, Indian’s Lone Wolf Band of Cherokee has began a census count of the Cherokee People living in Indiana that did not participate in the 2000 U.S. Census.
If you, or any and all of your family are of any proven or un-proven, documented or undocumented quantum of Cherokee blood, you are encouraged to participate in this census.
The Lone Wolf Band of Cherokee are trying to update 2000 Federal Census figures that stated there were approximately 15000 people of full and mixed Cherokee blood living in the State of Indiana. As of the beginning of 2000. It is believed that because of people still afraid to list themselves as Native, or those that feel they don’t have enough blood according to government standards, to list themselves, the 2000 census may be off by hundreds or thousands of Cherokee. We wish to correct that.
We would like to have everyone send a listing of those in your family WHO DID NOT RECOGNIZE YOURSELF IN THE 2000 CENSUS AS A FULL, MIXED OR OF ANY QUANTUM OF CHEROKEE BLOOD, to the Lone Wolf Office so that you can be added. This is not a federal census, it is simply for our records. You do not have to give names and any proof of your heritage is not required. You do not need to be registered with any nation or any un-recognized band or organization.
This is not a membership drive and will not be considered as such. Those wishing to apply to be a member of The Lone Wolf Band of Cherokee Indians will need to follow the application procedure outlined elsewhere in this site.
