Northridge High School has just over 900 students. In Indiana
there are presently no classes for athletic competition in cross country. Therefore schools such as Northridge
must compete in the State Tournament Series against all of the 384 high schools in the state including those having
enrollments of 3,000 or more. The cross country distance for Indiana girls is 4000 meters and for boys the distance
is 5000 meters.
Northridge is a member of the Northern Lakes Conference. Other schools in the NLC include Warsaw, Goshen,
Concord, Plymouth, Northwood, Wawasee, and Elkhart Memorial. The Raiders have won nine consecutive NLC
championships in girls cross country, and five of the last eight boys' titles.
The Indiana Tournament Series consists of four steps. The Sectional Meet includes 11 schools, five of which advance.
The Regional has 10 teams, representing the advancing schools from two Sectionals. Five schools advance to the
Semi-State competition which represents four Regionals. There are 20 teams at each of four Semi-State Meets and
five make it to the State contest. Thus, 20 teams (of 384) compete in the State Meet.
The Northridge girls cross country team qualified for State each of the last seven years (1992, 1993,
1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998) finishing fourth, second, third, fifth, sixth, thirteenth, and seventeenth in
that order. In 1999 the team didn't qualify, but one individual advanced to the state meet. The girls team recorded
a dual meet winning streak of 143 meets from September 26, 1989 (to Plymouth at Wawasee) until the loss on August
22, 2000 (to South Bend St. Joseph at Elkhart Memorial). The boys team advanced to State in 1994 finishing fourth.
The girls have won four of the last seven Semi-States, five of the last eight Regionals, and nine consecutive Sectionals.
The boys won their only Sectional title in 1994.
In addition to the above accomplishments the girls built a dual meet winning streak of 147 which began September,
1989 and ended August, 2000.
